Looking for Players

     I am trying to start a pathfinder campaign. It will meet Saturday evening at Valhalla's.
      The first Saturday we will attempt to play is 2/25/12 we will meet at 6:00.

Format: All baseline SR2012 rules with the following Appendix options:
Casual Time Limits (Round, turn and extension time of 50 point)
Scenarios: Close Quarters, Supply & Demand, Incoming, Command & Control
(Each round will be chosen at random, no scenarios repeat)

Notes: There will be no scheduled break. Bring any lunch/snacks you may need as the
event may go up to four rounds. Please read the Steamroller packet prior to the start of
the event; there are a number of changes from 2011 which must be understood to create
army lists correctly i.e. character restrictions and reinforcements. Also, scenarios are a
bit more complex than previous steamroller events so be aware.

Wizards has announced the release of the next core set, M13.

The annual updated Core Set for the perennial best-seller Magic: The Gathering is scheduled to release in July. The Magic 2013 Core Set will be the standard format set heading into the games twentieth year. The theme for this years Core Set will be Face a Greater Challenge.

This will be a 249-card set. The street release date is scheduled for July 13th, with pre-release events scheduled for July 7 and 8. A Magic game day will be held during the first weekend in August.

Magic 2013 Core Set will be available in Boosters with a suggested retail price of $3.99, Intro Packs at $12.99, and Fat Packs for $39.99. Event Decks will release on August 10, with a suggested retail price of $24.99.

The initial release of the Magic 2013 Core Set will not knock any existing sets out of the standard format. The release of the next major expansion in October will remove Magic 2012 and Scars of Mirrodin from standard format play.

The next Dungeons & Dragons board game, Lords of Waterdeep, will be available for sale March 20 (check out the solicitation in PDF form here) but it will be unlike similar offerings from the brand before. To find out just how different, I recently spoke with Rodney Thompson, one of the creative minds behind the design of the game. Here's what he had to say.

For those unfamiliar, what is Waterdeep, and why choose it as the setting for Lords of Waterdeep?
Waterdeep is the iconic city from the Forgotten Realms. The game takes place in the classic Forgotten Realms version of Waterdeep, before the Spellplague, and is rich with the lore of the city that people have enjoyed over the years.

Can you fill us in about the game itself?
Lords of Waterdeep is a competitive strategy board game. Players take on the role of one of the masked Lords of Waterdeep, the secret rulers of the City of Splendors. You send your agents out into the city to recruit adventurers, and then in turn send those adventurers on quests to further your influence over the city. The game is played over eight rounds, taking about an hour to play, and at the end of those eight rounds the player with the most Victory Points is the winner.

How does Lords of Waterdeep differ from previous D&D board game offerings?
This is our first real foray into the Euro-style board game arena, a new direction for both Dungeons & Dragons and Wizards of the Coast as a whole. Unlike a lot of other D&D games, Lords of Waterdeep focuses more on strategy and planning, reducing the effects of randomness on the game. Lords of Waterdeep takes many of the game play elements from Euro-style games and makes several improvements; the game sets up quickly, plays quickly, and has very high replay value due to a fun, exciting theme.

As a retailer, who should I be targeting the game towards?
This is a great game for people who like strategy board games but are looking for something with the classic D&D theme. The game comes with high-quality components, including wooden pieces, that board gamers have come to expect and features lots of full-color art all over the cards and game board. The game is a great value for the components you get, and plays like a fast-paced strategy game.

Tables, tables, tables.

The questions have started so I thought I'd make a general post and explain what we're up to. In general that would be reconfiguring our gaming tables to try to get more space for miniatures gaming on a day to day basis without reducing the availability and quality of space for board-gaming and RPG's. Space for card playing should not be affected.

The first thing we're doing is joining the two tables by the window and the two tables parallel to mission control with 2' extenders. The end result will be a single 18' table in each location instead of two 8' tables each place. When we need more tables we can then use what used to be two tables as three 6' tables. It also means that we have 18' available for mass battles.

Secondly, we doing some rearranging. Some of the details of this will be determined by what works out but the expectation is that we'll accomplish two things. First, when card gaming or card + board gaming need space beyond the back half of the play space we should be able to accommodate that without co-mingling miniatures tables with card/board-gaming tables. Secondly, we expect to be able to move a table and put together a single 26' table for special really large mega battles.

We're also going to get better set up to deploy additional temporary table tops for miniatures events with the expectation of being able to have twelve 6' tables spaces (or twenty 4' spaces) for large tournaments.

Lastly, we're also looking at an option to change out a table that would allow us to have space for ten 6' miniatures playing areas without using temporary tabletops but also have that table be fully usable (and comfortable) for cards, boardgames, and role-playing games.

Work has already begun and we're hoping to have all the changes made within a couple of weeks or so.
